APEX Power Steering Cooler for Jeep JL and JT
An APEX power steering cooler for the Jeep JL and JT — for vehicles whose steering works long under load and loses assistance to temperature. With the APEX Steering Boost Kit it is mandatory. Fitting is not a bolt-on job: the factory low-pressure line has to be cut, which is why the manufacturer recommends a certified technician. Instructions come as a PDF.
APEX Power Steering Cooler for Jeep JL and JT
Steering assistance that disappears halfway through a move on the rocks, or while parking on a hot day, is not a comfort issue — it decides whether you can turn the wheel at all.
The cooler answers that thermally: more fluid in the system and more cooling area, so the temperature stays in the range where the system works properly.
VEHICLE Jeep JL and JT | EFFECT More fluid volume and cooling area | PROBLEM Assistance cutting out when hot |
Key benefits
- more fluid in the system — a bigger volume heats up more slowly
- a larger cooling area that sheds the heat out of the fluid
- the system stays in its optimum operating range instead of going into thermal protection

Who it is for
For Jeep JL and JT owners on larger tyres who use the vehicle hard off-road — that is where the steering works longest under load.
Installation
This is not a bolt-on job. The instructions open with a warning: the manufacturer recommends a certified technician install this system, because fitting it without that knowledge may compromise the structure of the vehicle and its safety. The reason is simple — the first step is cutting the factory low-pressure line with a small tubing cutter, draining the oil into a bucket and cutting the rubber hose with a razor blade, leaving a one inch straight section. The fender liner comes off too.
Torque and oil. The hose nipples go in with an 18 mm deep well socket at 7 ft-lbs, and the o-ring has to be coated with power steering oil first. The system must run high grade pure synthetic — ATF is prohibited.
Frequently asked questions
Which models does it fit?
The JL and the JT. The install instructions do carry a separate section on mounting in a JK, though, and the bracket on the parts list is marked JK/JL — if you run a JK, write to us before ordering and we will ask APEX rather than guess.
Is the cooler needed with the Steering Boost Kit?
Yes. The kit raises working pressure and higher pressure generates more heat — the manufacturer requires the kit to be used with a cooler.
What is the cooler capacity?
APEX states it neither on the page nor in the instructions. Need that figure before you buy? We will ask.
