APEX R.I.V. Rapid Inflation Valves STD - set of 4
A set of four APEX R.I.V. fast inflation valves in STD length, for dual valve-stem wheels. With a 120 PSI, 10 CFM shop compressor a 37-39" tyre fills in under 10 seconds. The valve barely throttles the flow, so the compressor works easier and runs cooler. The R.I.V. chuck is included in the set.
APEX R.I.V. Rapid Inflation Valves STD - set of 4
Airing up after a trail is usually the longest part of the day, especially on 37 inch tyres and bigger.
The R.I.V. attacks the bottleneck at its source: a valve that does not throttle the air, so the compressor delivers what it actually has.
SET 4 valves, STD length | INFLATION TIME Under 10 s at 120 PSI and 10 CFM | REQUIREMENT Dual valve-stem wheels |
Key benefits
- under 10 seconds per 37-39" tyre with a 120 PSI, 10 CFM compressor
- almost no pressure drop across the valve - the compressor works easier, runs cooler and lasts longer
- with the regulator set the compressor shuts off by itself at the target pressure, so you do not have to watch the gauge
- a weaker on-board system can use thinner hose - 0.188" inside diameter is the minimum on onboard air, 0.250" on shop air
What is in the box
- 4 x APEX R.I.V. valve in STD length
- R.I.V. chuck

Technical data
- Manufacturer part number: X02-02-007
- Contents: set of 4 valves, STD length
- Intended for: dual valve-stem wheels only
- Inflation time - shop compressor: under 10 seconds for 37-39" tyres at 120 PSI and 10 CFM
- Inflation time - on-board air: depends on compressor output and pressure
- Technical advantage: almost no pressure drop across the valve - less load and less heat in the compressor
- Minimum hose inside diameter: 0.188"
- Automatic shut-off: with the regulator set, the compressor stops at the target pressure; inflation time rises by 10-20%
- Status: patent pending
Who it is for
For drivers on 37 inch tyres and bigger with dual valve-stem wheels, who air up a full set after every trip and want it done in minutes rather than a quarter of an hour.
Installation and notes
The valves go into dual valve-stem wheels - on a wheel with a single stem the product has no application. The manufacturer includes the R.I.V. chuck with this set. Measure the valve counter bore in your wheel before buying, though: the STD version fits a counter bore of 0.500 inch or less. The details, the torque figures and the hose requirements are in the installation section below.
Installation: measuring the seat, torque and hose
Measure the valve counter bore in your wheel before buying. The manufacturer gives the limit: the STD version fits where the counter bore is 0.500 inch or less, or 0.600 inch with the seal flipped. Above that the XL version is the right one, with a limit of 0.900 inch. This is the measurement that decides whether the valve goes in at all.
Torque: the valve goes to 18 in-lbs on a 14 mm hex, and the cap finger tight only — no wrench on the cap.
Hose and connection. The valve uses a female 1/4-18 NPT thread. Connecting the chuck to a hose needs a hose barb sized to your hose — the manufacturer does not include one, and 1/4 and 3/8 are the common sizes. The minimum hose inside diameter depends on the air source: 0.188 inch on an onboard system and 0.250 inch on shop air — and shop air is where the inflation times the manufacturer quotes are achieved.
Fit and care. The manufacturer rules out AEV wheels with their particular style of valve protector. It prohibits acids for cleaning. If a small leak appears at the check valve, it suggests wiggling it in and out several times with a small Allen wrench to clear dirt.
Frequently asked questions
Does it fit any wheel?
No. The manufacturer lists the R.I.V. for dual valve-stem wheels only.
Do I need a special chuck?
Yes. The R.I.V. Screw On Air Chuck is the matching chuck - it is not compatible with standard Schrader valves.
How does the R.I.V. differ from the RPV?
The R.I.V. is a fast inflation valve, the RPV a fast deflation valve. Two different products for two different jobs.
Why it is worth it
- a real cut in the longest part of a day off-road
- less load and less heat in the compressor, so it lasts longer
