Safari V-Spec SS661HF moves the L200 air intake from the wheel arch area up to roof height and connects into the factory airbox.

The 3.5 inch Air Ram head separates water out of the incoming stream. The kit has 25 parts, including a radiator overflow bottle and a template. It fits ML and MN versions built 07/2006-04/2015; not versions with HID headlamps.

Safari V-Spec Snorkel SS661HF — Mitsubishi L200 / Triton ML and MN, 07/2006–04/2015

This generation of L200 has its air intake tucked low on the inner side of the guard — exactly in the zone where the wheel throws water and where the densest dust collects. In a crossing that is the shortest route to ingesting water; in a convoy on gravel, to a blocked filter element after a few hundred kilometres.

The Safari V-Spec snorkel moves the intake point to roof height alongside the A-pillar and connects into the factory airbox.

Vehicle
Mitsubishi L200 / Triton, ML and MN versions
Years
07/2006 – 04/2015
Engines
2.5 DI-D and 3.2 diesel

Key features

  • 3½" Air Ram head with water separation — it directs the air stream and at the same time drops rain and spray out of it.
  • Cross-linked, UV-stabilised polyethylene with increased wall thickness — it takes branch contact and long sun exposure.
  • Complete 25-piece kit — including the radiator overflow bottle, which has to be relocated as part of this installation.
  • Fitting guide with an accurate body template — the cut outline comes from the manufacturer, it is not measured out on the day.
  • Designed and manufactured in Australia — tooled for the L200 ML/MN body.

Fitment

Mitsubishi L200 / Triton in ML (3.2 diesel) and MN (2.5 DI-D) versions, built from 07/2006 to 04/2015. The snorkel mounts to the front guard and runs up alongside the A-pillar.

Exclusion: the kit is not compatible with versions fitted with HID (xenon) headlamps — the ballast assembly clashes with the snorkel route. Check which headlamps your vehicle has before ordering; send us the VIN if you are not sure.

Fitting and notes

Fitting is permanent: it requires cutting an opening in the front guard, drilling in the inner guard and relocating the radiator overflow bottle — the manufacturer supplies a new bottle in the kit. The guide includes a body template that marks the cut outline.

Difficulty is moderate to high. The kit has 25 parts, so lay them out and check them before you start. Cut edges must be treated against corrosion, and the connection to the airbox has to be sealed — otherwise the engine draws air beside the snorkel.

We can also fit it for you — Szekla4x4.pl is an online shop, a bricks-and-mortar store and a workshop focused on off-road and overlanding, so you can leave the vehicle with us and collect it with the intake already fitted and sealed.

Frequently asked questions

Will the snorkel let the vehicle wade deeper?

No. A snorkel moves the intake point up to roof height and protects the engine from ingesting water, but the wading depth declared by the vehicle manufacturer does not change. You are still limited by axle and gearbox breathers, door and floor seals, wiring, control modules in the sills, and bearings and joints that water reaches regardless of the intake. A snorkel removes one risk — the most expensive one, hydraulic lock — not all of them.

Does the guard have to be cut?

Yes. The snorkel passes through the front guard, so the opening is unavoidable. The manufacturer supplies a body template to mark the cut, plus a new radiator overflow bottle, because the factory one has to be moved. Cut edges are then treated against corrosion.

Does it fit my year and engine?

This part number covers the L200 / Triton in ML and MN versions from 07/2006 to 04/2015, with the 2.5 DI-D and 3.2 diesel engines. The generation from 2015 (MQ) and later ones have different part numbers.

I have xenon headlamps — will this snorkel fit?

No. The manufacturer explicitly excludes versions with HID (xenon) headlamps: parts of the headlamp installation clash with the snorkel route. If you do not know which headlamps your vehicle has, send us the VIN and we will check before you order.

Can a cyclonic pre-filter be added?

Yes. The V-Spec head separates water droplets out of the incoming air on its own, and for dusty work it can be swapped for a cyclonic pre-cleaner. That is the standard answer to convoy driving on gravel: dust ends up in the collector bowl instead of in the air filter element, which then lasts considerably longer. Message us and we will match a cyclone to the head diameter.

Does the snorkel change intake behaviour or engine output?

The V-Spec line (the HF suffix in the part number) is a protective snorkel — its job is to raise and shield the intake and separate water out of the air stream, not to increase flow. Increased flow is what Safari's separate ARMAX line with the HP suffix is for. If you want a snorkel that primarily protects the engine and needs no tuning changes, V-Spec is the right choice.

Why it is worth it

  • The factory intake on the L200 works in the worst possible place — the snorkel removes that risk with no engine modifications and no software changes.
  • A complete 25-piece kit with a template means fitting without fabricating adaptors and without improvising around the coolant bottle.
  • Thick-walled, cross-linked polyethylene survives UV and branch strikes that light copies do not.
